Air Force Reserve Officer Training Corp (AFROTC) was established at 鶹Ʒ in the Fall of 1949, but its roots began as a branch of Army ROTC, known as the Air ROTC program, in 1946. Over the years, Purdue AFROTC graduates have gone on to become senior Air Force and Space Force officers, successful leaders both in and out of the military, as well as, famous astronauts. Located at a world-renowned university, Detachment (Det) 220 has earned a reputation as one of the best officer training programs in the country.

Incentive flights expose cadets to the world of aviation, often inspiring them to pursue careers as Air Force pilots.

Commander’s Cup
Every Fall, a weeklong competition is held between the different service branches within the ROTC Department at Purdue. It involves various sporting events, with the winning team earning bragging rights and the coveted Commander’s Cup trophy.

Operation HAMMER DOWN
Operation HAMMER DOWN is a Detachment-wide leadership and team-building exercise typically held at Martell Forest. Cadets are split into two teams and tasked with capturing the most territory while evading enemy forces.

Low Challenge Course
The Low Challenge Course (LCC) is an outdoor, low-level obstacle course that fosters collaboration, leadership, communication and critical thinking as cadets navigate physical and mental challenges together.
