I would assist in developing and maintaining automated processes and applications, collaborate on AI-based solutions, and support the integration of automation technologies to optimize business operations in areas like manufacturing, supply chain, and R&D.
In what ways did the Polytechnic and/or Purdue help make you uniquely qualified for your new job?
My study abroad experience in Costa Rica with Horizons Student Support Services helped me develop adaptability, problem-solving skills, and a global perspective, which are qualities that are valuable in any job. Navigating a new environment and culture taught me to communicate effectively and think on my feet. These skills, combined with my technical background from Purdue, make me well-prepared for my new role.
How has the college or someone in the college helped you achieve your goals?
Professor Sudip Vhaduri has played a huge role in helping me reach my goals by giving me the opportunity to work as an undergraduate teaching assistant for the Database Fundamentals class. This experience strengthened my technical skills, deepened my understanding of databases and SQL, and helped me develop confidence in mentoring others. It was a valuable stepping stone toward my career in data engineering.
What specific classes helped prepare you for your new job?
Classes like Database Programming, Advanced Analysis and Design, and Applied Machine Learning were important in preparing me for my new job. They gave me hands-on experience with databases, taught me how to design efficient systems, and helped me understand machine learning applications, which are all essential skills for a data engineering role.
If you had a favorite class, project, experience, or professor, what/who was it, and why?
I really enjoyed the System Administration class because it was hands-on every week and constantly challenged me. The course covered useful topics like authentication, authorization, directory services, and system security, all while giving me practical experience with enterprise-level systems. The lab work made learning more engaging and helped me develop real-world skills.
