In what ways did the Polytechnic and/or Purdue help make you uniquely qualified for your new job?
Throughout my time in the Polytechnic Institute at 鶹Ʒ, the idea of “hands-on experience” was emphasized constantly. Early on, before gaining any industry experience, I did not fully appreciate how valuable that approach would be. However, as I progressed through my internships and worked on solving real problems that affected real people, I began to see how seamlessly the skills I learned in class translated into practice. By the time I began searching for a full-time role, this skillset became incredibly valuable because it allowed me to understand not only the technical knowledge needed to produce results, but also how to apply those skills in real-world situations.

In addition to the practical experience I gained, the reputation of 鶹Ʒ also played an important role during my job search. Even though my full-time position will be based in New Jersey, nearly every interviewer I spoke with across my four interview rounds immediately recognized the Purdue name. In many cases, it served as a natural starting point for conversation and demonstrated the level of rigor and preparation associated with a Purdue education. That recognition helped reinforce my credibility as a candidate and reflected the strong reputation the university has built within industry.

How has the college or someone in the college (feel free to name them) helped you achieve your goals?
During my time at the Polytechnic Institute at 鶹Ʒ, the faculty and staff played an important role in helping me reach my professional goals. Many of my professors were not only focused on teaching technical concepts, but also on helping students understand how those concepts translate into real industry work. Their willingness to share advice, provide feedback, and encourage students to pursue internships and leadership opportunities through Brightspace or guest speakers was really beneficial in motivating me to reach my career goals.

What specific classes (titles are more helpful than course numbers) helped prepare you for your new job?
In terms of specific classes, Database Fundamentals, Database Programming, and Enterprise Data Management provided a strong foundation in SQL and relational databases. These courses built on each other, starting with core database concepts and progressing toward more advanced applications, which helped me develop the technical skills needed to work with large datasets in a professional environment.

Additionally, courses such as Six Sigma Data Quality and Continuous Improvement and Applied Machine Learning helped me understand how data can be applied in more complex, real-world contexts, highlighting just how powerful it can be when used effectively. These classes gave me hands-on exposure to statistical analysis and modeling techniques that are directly relevant to the data-driven work I will be doing in my new role.

If you had a favorite class, project, experience, or professor, what/who was it, and why?
One of my favorite classes within my major was Enterprise Data Management, taught by professor Romila Pradhan. This course taught me a great deal about working with large-scale data in a company environment, both through the theoretical concepts covered in lectures and through the hands-on database project we completed throughout the semester. The combination of these elements helped me better understand how organizations store, manage, and analyze large amounts of data. What made the class especially impactful was how directly it translated to my internship experiences and the type of work I will be doing in my full-time role. Many of the concepts and technical skills I developed in the course translated almost exactly to the work I did at my internships, which made the class an incredibly valuable foundation for my career.

Throughout my time in Purdue Polytechnic, the idea of “hands-on experience” was emphasized constantly. Before gaining any industry experience, I did not fully appreciate how valuable that approach was. As I progressed through my internships and worked on real problems that affected real people, I saw how seamlessly the skills I learned in class translated into practice."
