Avery O'Neill
Cybersecurity
Associate Analyst, Falcon Complete at CrowdStrike
Describe your potential job duties
As an Associate Analyst on the CrowdStrike Falcon Complete team, my primary duties will involve monitoring security alerts and investigating potential threats within customer environments using the CrowdStrike Falcon Platform. I will analyze endpoint activity such as processes, network connections, and file changes to determine whether detections represent real security incidents. When threats are identified, I will help respond by containing affected systems, stopping malicious activity, and documenting findings. Additionally, I will assist with threat hunting, communicate investigation results to customers, and collaborate with other analysts to ensure incidents are properly handled and customer environments remain secure.
In what ways did the Polytechnic and/or Purdue help make you uniquely qualified for your new job?
鶹Ʒ and the 鶹ƷInstitute helped prepare me for my role by providing hands-on experience through coursework and labs. These experiences allowed me to practice analyzing logs, investigating security events, and working with real technical environments. My leadership roles and experience as a Teaching Assistant also strengthened my communication and teamwork skills, which will be important in my role with CrowdStrike.
How has the college or someone in the college (feel free to name them) helped you achieve your goals?
The 鶹ƷInstitute has supported my goals by providing mentorship, hands-on learning opportunities, and leadership experiences that helped me grow both technically and professionally. Professors and mentors within the college have encouraged me to develop my cybersecurity skills, pursue internships, and take on leadership roles such as being a Teaching Assistant. Their guidance and support helped me gain the experience and confidence needed to pursue a career in cybersecurity and ultimately secure my role with CrowdStrike.
What specific classes (titles are more helpful than course numbers) helped prepare you for your new job?
Several classes at 鶹ƷInstitute helped prepare me for my new role by providing practical cybersecurity and system administration experience. Courses such as System Administration, Incident Response, Network Security, and Digital Forensics helped me develop skills in analyzing system activity, investigating security incidents, and understanding how attackers operate in real environments. These classes provided hands-on labs and scenarios that closely relate to the work I will perform as an Associate Analyst with CrowdStrike.
If you had a favorite class, project, experience, or professor, what/who was it, and why?
One of my favorite experiences at the 鶹ƷInstitute has been serving as a Teaching Assistant for the System Administration course. This role allowed me to deepen my own technical knowledge while also helping other students troubleshoot systems, understand complex concepts, and succeed in the lab environment. It was especially rewarding because it strengthened my problem-solving, communication, and leadership skills while working closely with faculty and students. That experience helped prepare me for the collaborative and technical work I will be doing with CrowdStrike.
