In what ways did the Polytechnic and/or Purdue help make you uniquely qualified for your new job?
The Polytechnic and Purdue helped make me uniquely qualified for my new job by giving me a wide range of skills and the confidence to apply them in different situations. Instead of focusing on just one narrow area, I gained experience working across multiple disciplines, technology, communication, teamwork, and problem-solving, all of which prepared me to adapt quickly in a professional environment. Through hands-on, project-based learning, I learned how to approach challenges from different angles, collaborate effectively with others, and communicate ideas clearly. Purdue emphasized learning by doing, which strengthened my ability to take initiative, manage projects, and stay organized under pressure. I also became comfortable stepping into unfamiliar situations and learning new tools or systems as needed. Overall, my experience at Purdue taught me how to think critically, work well with diverse teams, and adjust to change, skills that directly translate to my new role and allow me to contribute in a meaningful and versatile way.
How has the college or someone in the college (feel free to name them) helped you achieve your goals?
The college played a huge role in helping me achieve my goals, especially through the accessibility and genuine support of the professors and staff. One of the most impactful aspects of my experience was how approachable everyone was. Faculty like Dr. Hammoud, Dr. Bittinger, Cassie Pendleton, Dr. Strimel and Shawn Farrington were never just instructors, they were mentors who made themselves available, whether through office hours, quick check-ins, or thoughtful feedback. Having direct access to them made it easier to ask questions, seek guidance, and grow both academically and professionally. Beyond accessibility, there is a true culture of encouragement within the college. It genuinely feels like people are “cheering you on.” Professors and staff don't just want you to pass a class, they want you to succeed in internships, land jobs, build confidence, and reach long-term goals. That kind of environment makes a difference. It pushes you to aim higher because you know you have people in your corner who believe in you. Their mentorship, guidance, and consistent encouragement helped me build confidence in my abilities and take meaningful steps toward my career goals. I'm grateful for the relationships and support system that made my success feel shared, not solitary.
What specific classes (titles are more helpful than course numbers) helped prepare you for your new job?
ENTR 480 – Entrepreneurial Leadership and Careers helped me think strategically about my professional path. The course focused on leadership development, personal branding, networking, and understanding workplace dynamics. It pushed me to reflect on my strengths, communicate my value clearly, and approach opportunities with confidence, skills that are essential as I begin my career.
OLS 450 – Advanced Project Management gave me practical tools for planning, organizing, and executing projects efficiently. Learning how to manage timelines, allocate resources, assess risk, and keep teams aligned has been especially valuable. The course emphasized real-world application, which directly translates to managing responsibilities and collaborating effectively in a professional setting.
OLS 477 – Conflict Management strengthened my ability to navigate difficult conversations and work through disagreements productively. Understanding different conflict styles and practicing resolution strategies prepared me to maintain professionalism and build strong working relationships, even in challenging situations.
Finally, TECH 220 – Design Technology for People reinforced the importance of user-centered thinking. This class taught me to approach problems with empathy, consider accessibility and usability, and design solutions that truly meet people's needs. That mindset is incredibly relevant in any role that involves serving clients, customers, or team members.
Together, these courses provided both technical knowledge and professional skills that have made me feel prepared and confident entering my new job.
If you had a favorite class, project, experience, or professor, what/who was it, and why?
If I had to choose, my favorite experiences were shaped most by the professors who made a lasting impact on me.
Dr. Bittinger stands out because of his genuine kindness and constant willingness to help. He doesn't just teach content, he invests in people. His passion for his work and for helping students discover their own passions is evident in every interaction. He consistently challenges students to grow into strong, thoughtful leaders while also making sure they feel supported along the way. That balance of high expectations and sincere encouragement made a lasting impression on me.
Dr. Hammoud has also had a profound impact on my experience. She leads with what I can only describe as a servant heart. Her understanding nature, friendliness, and ability to remember even the smallest details about her students make you feel truly seen and valued. She creates an environment where students feel comfortable asking questions, sharing ideas, and striving to do their best because they know she genuinely cares.
Dr. Linvill is another professor who deeply influenced me. Her passion for teaching is clear, but what stands out most is her emphasis on ethical decision-making in business and life as a whole. She consistently encouraged us to think beyond profit and consider integrity, responsibility, and long-term impact. That perspective has shaped how I approach professional decisions and the kind of leader I hope to become.
Each of these professors not only taught me course material, but also modeled leadership, integrity, and compassion in ways that will stay with me far beyond the classroom.
