What made you decide to choose your specific major?
When I was in middle school, my family took a trip to Washington DC and visited the FBI building. At the end of the tour, there was a quiz that stated what area of the FBI you would best fit in at. I was already interested in Computer Science and coding, and this quiz confirmed that. Ever since then, I’ve been interested in learning more about the cyber world and security of computers, the internet, and how everything works together.

What are a couple of your favorite things about your program of study?
The number one thing that I praise the most about Cybersecurity is how hands on it is! Within the first semester of classes, I was already in labs working with virtual machines, getting hands on experience with new coding languages I had never worked with before. It challenged me from the start and I enjoyed that challenge! In this day and age, it is also eye opening to gain further understanding of a field that is going to continue to change as the years progress.

What has been one of your favorite class projects?
In a class called TECH 120 (Design Thinking in Technology), I had a final project that that I completed which involved solving a challenge. Within a group of 5, our group was meant to solve the issue of Advanced Personalized Learning. We brainstormed different ideas but managed to create what we called a "game kit". It would be a kit that came with a board, timer, dice, and flashcards. But what was unique about the flashcards is that they were laminated in order to allow them to be reused utilizing dry erase markers. I am super proud of how this project turned out and how my group worked together to complete this project.

What other activities are you involved in on campus?
I am mostly involved in Women in Technology (WiT) on campus! It’s a great club that brings together all women in the Polytechnic School and creates a welcoming environment for women in male dominated fields. For Fall 2025 through Spring 2026, I will be starting my role as the Publicity chair for the club as well!

What do you know about your program of study now that you wish someone had told you when you were choosing a major?
Your professors are there to help you! Take advantage of that! Whether it’s sending emails asking questions, setting up times to meet, or stopping by their office during office hours. Classes are meant to challenge you and there are going to be times where you will want help. Cybersecurity and CIT professors in general are so kind and genuinely invested in the learning you are doing.

What would be one piece of advice for prospective students or new Purdue students?
Join a club! This can be a club that has to do with your major or just one for fun! Either way, it’s a great way to get to know people and make new friends in a new environment. Campus can feel really big and intimidating but once you find a group/club that you like, it doesn’t feel that way as much.
