Too often we hear the claim that many students are just not good at math. Is that an excuse or a reality?

Math scores across the United States are dismal, but some districts are providing ways to turn their math scores around.

Moderator Peter DeWitt will be joined by researchers and practitioners for this discussion.

Nancy C. Jordan is Dean Family Endowed Chair and Professor of Education at the University of Delaware. Her research focuses on how children learn math and why so many struggle, both in early and middle childhood.
Gerilyn Williams
Mathematics Teacher, Pinelands Regional JHS
Gerilyn Williams, a math teacher from New Jersey, has 19 years of teaching experience. She is passionate about student-centered and blended learning and gamification. Not only has she led professional development sessions within her district and community, but she also has been a presenter at the International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE) conference. She serves on multiple district committees, working to enhance district policies and programs for her students.
Dr. Chaunté Garrett
CEO, ELLE Education Services and ASCD Faculty, Professional Learning Services
Dr. N. Chaunté Garrett has served as a math teacher, district math specialist, and a building and district administrator. Currently, she consults as an ASCD faculty member while serving as the CEO of ELLE Education, which provides services to empower learners and leaders to excel.
