Team 47: Safe CBD/THC Product Manufacturing

This project is sponsored by:

Background: 50% to 70% of the CBD products sold in Northwest Indiana have THC in them. This exposes consumers to unwanted THC consumption, leading to legal consequences. In addition, it has been reported that the CBD/THC product bottles are often greasy to the touch. The existing project has suggested several that CBD will revert to THC. Current research suggests that the micronized emulsions of these components are leaching through the packaging.

Project: The overall research will consist of two parts. Students will work on the issues that cause the CBD/THC transition and try to identify a scientific/engineering way to prevent it. In addition, the teams will attempt to create a product label that will indicate when CBD or THC has effused out of the packaging, allowing incidental contact.
